Volunteer with Lighthouse!

We currently need volunteers to help with emergency food deliveries. Lighthouse has partnered with Oakland University, Pontiac Community Foundation, and others to pack and deliver food boxes from Oakland University. To reduce risk for all, food boxes will be delivered contact-free via porch pick-up only. To streamline the registration process, we are using Oakland University’s volunteer registration system instead of Lighthouse’s. Click here to volunteer as a driver during this critical time.

Other current needs include:

Project Can Do – Collect bags of cans/bottles as donors drop them off. Click here to learn more and register.

Emergency Food – Help us unload and repack produce for distribution. Click here to learn more and register.

For more information, please contact marci@lighthousemi.org.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Lighthouse! Our volunteers are the heart and soul of this organization and we could not serve thousands of individuals each year without your help.

Below is a list of some of our volunteer opportunities, that we are hopeful will be back after the COVID-19 crisis.  If you would like to discuss any of these opportunities, have questions, or would like to volunteer with a large group, please reach out to Marci Fitch at marci@lighthousemi.org or at 248-972-1488.

Emergency Shelter

One of our greatest strengths lies in our partnerships with over 60 area Oakland County congregations.  Each week, a congregation takes on the responsibility of hosting Lighthouse shelter guests and provides them with overnight accommodations, three daily meals, transportation, and meaningful interactions with caring volunteers.   Volunteers are needed to assist with breakfast, lunch, dinner, transporting clients and luggage, laundry, set-up, clean-up and overnight hall monitoring.

Volunteer at the Emergency Shelter

Volunteer drivers help in our food pantry and emergency shelter.  Pantry drivers help pick-up food deliveries from target locations in the Metro-Detroit area.   Emergency Shelter drivers are needed to transport shelter clients to goal related places like the library, housing opportunities, and job interviews.

Food Pantry

The Lighthouse food pantries serve individuals and families in need of food assistance.  Volunteer activities include sorting food, stocking shelves, and packing food boxes.   Our pantry is the only pantry in Oakland County that operates 5 days per week and services all of Oakland County.
